Course of

Wax modelling for goldsmith

A technique that lends itself particularly well to the creation of figurative or organic-shaped objects, resembling sculpture in the way it is worked. Instead of metal, objects are made from a block of synthetic wax and worked by removing material using special methods and tools. At the end of the work, a wax prototype of a ring, pendant, bracelet or other ornament is obtained, which is then transformed into an exact copy in precious or non-precious metal using the lost-wax casting technique. Speed of processing, cost-effectiveness of the materials and equipment used have decreed its success. All materials and equipment are provided by the School, included in the price of the Course.

A certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the Course program.

Program

During the Course students will make 4 objects, the first 3 are proposed by the Master according to a propaedeutic program for learning the various techniques, while the 4th will be a free theme chosen by the student.

Various types of wax will be used (hard, medium, soft; slab tube, block) applying the most important techniques (use of hacksaw, files, emery papers, cutters, wax heater, wax gun, soldering and finishing of the wax piece, removal to the appropriate thickness). Finishing and polishing of a metal piece. Learning to estimate the cost of making the metal object.
